More Book Meme

Also annother one from Fond of Snape.

Science Fiction, Fantasy or Horror?
Since I’m a huge Stephen King fan, Horror, Fantasy would be a close second though considering the Lord of the Rings addiction I’ve nursed since I was 8 years old.

Hardback or Trade Paperback or Mass Market Paperback? Trade Paperback

Heinlein or Asimov?
Uh, neither, this is not my best Meme, as it’s a sci fi based one & I’m not a sci fi fan.

Amazon or brick and mortar?
Brick & Mortar, I never have space on a credit card for Amazon

Barnes & Noble or Borders?
I’ve been to Borders once & was impressed but they’re not around here so I have to say Barnes & Noble.

Hitchhiker or Discworld?
Hitchiker since I’ve not even heard of Discworld.

Bookmark or Dogear?

Magazine: Asimov’s Science Fiction or Fantasy & Science Fiction?
Neither thank you very much

Alphabetize by author, alphabetize by title or random?
Author in fiction, subject in non fiction.

Keep, Throw Away or Sell?
Trade at http://www.paperbackswap.com/members/index.php

Year’s Best Science Fiction series (edited by Gardner Dozois) or Year’s Best SF series (edited by David G. Hartwell)?
Another one I haven’t read (or heard of LOL).

Keep dustjacket or toss it?
Keep it.

Read with dustjacket or remove it?
Remove it, I tote my current read back & forth to work they rip easily.

Short story or novel?
Both, prefer Novels though.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
Harry every time.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
I try to make it to a chapter break but if I’m really tired I’ll make my self just shut the damn book.

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”?
Once Upon A Time.

Buy or Borrow?
Either is ok. It takes me a long time to read a book though because of work & the fact that I have kids & I spend a lot of my actual time online. So I prefer to own because I don’t have to worry so much about returning a borrowed book.

Buying choice: Book Reviews, Recommendation or Browse?
Mostly browse.

Lewis or Tolkien?
Tolkien, I never got past the second Narnia book.

Hard SF or Space Opera?
Neither

Collection (short stories by the same author) or Anthology (short stories by different authors)?
I like either. Stephen King’s short stories are my favorite of all his writing for instance.

Hugo or Nebula?
Um…no idea what this means.becky.jpg

Golden Age SF or New Wave SF?
Neither.

Tidy ending or Cliffhanger?
I’m not picky, I like either one. King, again, is the master of the cliffhanger ending & I love him for just that reason.

Morning reading, Afternoon reading or Nighttime reading?
Mostly Lunch reading (& my breaks at work too) I also often read in bed in the mornings before getting up on my days off.

Standalone or Series?
Either is good, though I admit I haven’t read a ton of series (I guess you could call the Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon a series though)

Urban fantasy or high fantasy?
High fantasy I guess- if you consider JRR Tolkiens writing ‘high fantasy’

New or used?
Either, I’m not picky & can be hard on books so used is ok, it’s less investment for me to destroy (I don’t mean deliberately, it sometimes just happens)

Responses

  1. I didn’t remember a third book for the Anne Rice series…have to look into that. “The Witching Hour” is fantastic! I’m surprised no King made your faves lists…

    Ohyea, here from Michele’s – already! :)

  2. That’s cool that we have the same initials!

    Maybe we’re related!

    Hi, you sent me!

  3. I like Cliffhangers myself, except when my big brother has me hanging out a window.

  4. hi! Michele sent me.

That’s an interesting meme. It’s got a lot of stuff I’d not be able to answer…but I’m a Harry Potter fan as well as LOTR, that much I can say.

Oh, and I met Steven King once…he came to speak at my HS in Maine when I was on the newspaper staff (as a freshman) and he was cool. Weird, but cool!

  5. Stephen King & Tolkien, I knew I liked you for a reason :-)

  6. Oddly enough, I’m more a writer than a reader. Although it’s been said and I believe it… all good writers are good readers, my reading is typically of the periodical variety. Oh sure, I’ll read a book now and again, but magazines and newspapers dominate my reading time.

Perhaps when I get passed the textbooks!

    Michele sent me,

    Mike
